Mediocrity

After typing, deleting, retyping, deleting again, and finally sitting in front of this screen, staring, trying to put thoughts together enough to make sense, I chose to just put it out there. Instead of putting together a “piece of work”, my honest, raw, unbridled thoughts are once again being put out here for anyone who cares, to see.

Life is a lot of work. People who say it is easy are liars. So are people who say it is hard. Life is what you make it – truly. Some days are going to be easier, happier and all around better than others. A lot of days are dull, boring and “same old, same old”, while some still, are more difficult than others. Some things you will be unable to control; however, much of life is exactly the sum of what you have added to it. Add a negative attitude to an already difficult day and you will end up with a bad day. Add a smile or laughter to a day already full of cheer, and I guarantee you the day will only get better.

My life is unlike anyone else I have ever come in contact with. A lot of people think my life is crazy, surreal and not at all what they could tolerate. Some days I think the same. Most days an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the abundant blessings I have been given is the emotion at the forefront of my mind. Yes, I have bad days. There are days it seems nothing but negativity, bad news, traffic and uncooperative people fill my vision, but I choose to (most of the time) make the best out of the worst.  Some people take this to mean, I am a “Yes” girl, or a people pleaser.  It is true that I am most happy when everyone around me is happy, but that in no way, means I am a doormat who allows herself to be walked on. Cross me one too many times and see the dragon bare her teeth!

Mediocrity puts me in a bad mood faster than just about anything. Whether in a work environment, relationship, friendship, or any other situation – Be your best. Give your all. Be 100% in or 100% out. Don’t tell me one thing and do another. Even worse, don’t tell me one thing and fail to inform me of a change in plans. And for heaven’s sakes, don’t ever, ever be less than COMPLETELY honest with me. A lie of omission is still a lie, in my eyes.

Someone recently told me in regard to a certain situation, they thought I was holding my cards close, in fear of being disappointed. How right they were, even though I was slow to admit it. The truth is, people are always going to let you down, disappoint you, fail to come through in the capacity you want them to. It is your choice, and your choice alone, to let them know how long you are willing to live with things being the way they are – in all situations. Don’t let yourself be stuck in a rut, when a ladder is right beside you. Above all remember this:

Whether you view the glass as half empty or half full, there is always room in it, for more. What you put in, is your choice.

It’s good to be back – At home, in a new year, and on my blog.
