Change the World

SPEAK IN LOVE: It truly angers me when I see ANYONE, be it Christians or non-Christians, speaking out and standing up for a cause they believe in, and getting rude backlash for it. Everyone has the right to form their own opinion. You have the right to agree, or disagree with them – for whatever reason, but do so respectfully. There is no need for hatred, anger, bitterness – all the things Christ commands us NOT to do. Sadly, the majority of the time, it is so-called Christians who yell the loudest about what is “right” and “wrong”. Since when did Christ name us a “Judge”? The bible is clear in saying we should “Love your neighbor as yourself”. If we truly loved others as much as we loved our SELVES – we would be crazy in love!

I remember several years ago someone I know, personally, a Christian, went to a function attended by President Obama and the First Lady, to speak out against human trafficking, which sadly, is happening everyday right here in America. It is a cause I feel VERY strongly about, and as I learn more about the high numbers of young girls who are affected, I am convinced the vast majority of people in America have no idea what is taking place. To know that over 27 million people are enslaved, the majority of whom are young girls who are sold for sex, is revolting. It is why, the minute I heard about Nashville Anti Human Trafficking Coalition here in Nashville, I jumped at the chance to partner with them! I volunteer monthly, and Neatly Balanced tries to meet many needs they have for tangible items to help the women they rescue and restore off the streets of Nashville.

At this event this person was attending, there were over 150 comments on her social media page about her attending an event hosted by our former President, on sex trafficking.  To see the hateful words a lot of people who call themselves Christians, truly upset me, because people are missing the point. Sex trafficking is not a political event. These are not “Republican Girls” or “Democratic Girls” being sold as sex slaves; these are young ladies, someone’s daughter, children of God, who are being treated worse than some animals. I saw with my own eyes, people say they were no longer going to “like” her facebook page, or follow her on IG and twitter, because she “agreed/sided with the President”. First of all, grow up. Secondly, wake up! No one (hopefully!) attending the event was trying to make a political statement. It doesn’t matter what side of the fence you are on; Republican/Democrat Male/Female, Married/Single, Straight/Gay, Educated/Uneducated, Rich/Poor, etc support these girls who need out of the tragic life they are living in, start loving others as Christ commanded, and stop turning every statement into a political strategy.

I don’t normally speak out about specific things I read, because its impossible to know and understand all of the background, but this time it hit home, since this particular cause is one I feel incredibly strong about supporting. My prayers is for us to be the voice these girls don’t have, and bring to light, the truth about the horrible darkness they are living in.  To learn more about sex trafficking check out these links:
